1. Introduction
The Safeguarding Adults Board oversees safeguarding arrangements across Buckinghamshire, and has a responsibility for ensuring effectiveness of the safeguarding work of member and partner agencies – including the provision of training for staff and volunteers.
Relevant training includes:
- basic mandatory induction training which aims to raise awareness of safeguarding adults issues and how to make a referral;
- more detailed awareness training, including training on recognition of abuse and neglect and the specific roles and responsibilities of staff in individual agencies;
- specialist training for staff who will be undertaking safeguarding enquiries, and managers; and
- training for elected members and others for example Healthwatch members.
2. Requirements for Training
Training should be provided for staff at all levels in an organisation and be updated regularly to reflect best practice. To ensure that practice is consistent – no staff group should be excluded.
Training is a continuing responsibility and should be provided as a rolling programme. Whilst training may be undertaken on a joint basis and the SAB has an overview of standards and content, it is the responsibility of each organisation to train its own staff. It is essential that each organisations training is aligned with any published non-statutory guidance or best practice established by the sector (for example, Adult Safeguarding: Roles and Competencies for Health Care Staff).
